Ghana is the 25th country to have qualified for the World Cup Brazil on the 19th of November 2013. Ghana was 1 of the 10 CAF countries to play the continental play-offs. Their opponent was Egypt which hadn’t qualified for a World Cup since 1990. After their first match it was pretty obvious which country would win that World Cup Brazil ticket. The World Cup 2014 Ghana national team crushed Egypt with a score of 6-1. Asamoah Gyan, Wael Gomaa (own goal), Abdul Majeed Waris, Sulley Muntari and Christian Atsu scored the 6 goals. Egypt fought back in the 2nd match and won with 2-1. Kevin-Prince Boateng was responsible for the goal for Ghana. Ghana nevertheless won due to a high aggregate score of 7-3, resulting in a safe passage to the World Cup Brazil.

Best Performance

2010 – Quarter-Final: Ghana was very close as an African country in reaching the Semi-Final for the first time, but it was Uruguay that won the penalty shootout with 4-2.

Worst Performance

2006 – Round of 16: Definitely not a bad result for Ghana to reach the Round of 16 in their first World Cup. Nevertheless it isn’t as good as the 2010 World Cup result. Ghana lost the Round of 16 match with 3-0 against Brazil.
